Today we'll take a look at generating effective copy for your company's web site. When it comes to writing sales copy, there are many rules. Here are some basic considerations.
My personal belief is that you should write in layman's terms, so almost anyone can understand your message. Using technical terms and lengthy explanations should be saved for technical sites. Remember, also, to keep your wording and descriptions brief.
Another key consideration is whether or not your page's copy is high contrast against the page's background. For each page's copy block, use consistent typeface, font size, color and positioning. Doing so reassures the visitor, enhances your site's professional appearance. Remember the point is to convey your message.
If you acknowledge your business as professional, then prove it everywhere by providing your site's visitors with references to the wealth of resources and alternatives there. Almost every professional firm doing business on the web invites feedback and provides an easy means for doing so. These submissions should garner a nearly immediate auto-responder message generated by the server upon receipt of the submission.
In expository writing, you attempt to prove a premise or point. Be certain that if you pose a question to your reader, it's one to which they can only answer 'yes'. This emphasizes your message.
All of the previously mentioned methods for generating effective copy are useless unless you run SPELL CHECKER. Let me say that again. There are no excuses for misspelled words.
Remember that you only get one chance to make a first impression. Good Luck and Good Writing !!!
